Cain's Dark Mild (8/10)

Cain's Dark Mild pours from the can a deep brown color with a reasonably persistent tan head.  Its chocolate flavor and appearance are similar to a stout, but with little or no hoppiness to it.  It leaves behind a thin lacing in the glass which dissipates quickly. It's a beer I'll definitely have again.

Beer Advocate rates it an 83, or "good".

I sampled this can at The Winking Lizard Tavern on Bethel Road.  I've not seen it for sale elsewhere in Columbus.

ABV: 3.2%
IBU: Unknown, but 10-24 is common for this style
My rating: 8/10

Le Baladin Nora (9/10)

Le Baladin Nora is an herbal, spiced beer from Italy.  The color is a deep amber or pale brown.  It's slightly cloudy, and has little or no head. It's very similar to Dogfish Head Ta Henket, a beer brewed from an ancient Egyptian recipe.

The flavor is complex and difficult to describe.  It's slightly sweet, yet there is a citrus sourness there as well.  There are floral and ginger notes to it as well.  The overall effect is extremely pleasing.  I'll definitely have it again.

Beer Advocate apparently agrees with me, rating it a 91-94 out of 100, and calling "exceptional".

I had this particular bottle at The Winking Lizard Tavern on Bethel Road.  I haven't seen this beer since then, though I did spy a different beer from the same brewery at Palmer Beverage Center on Indianola.

ABV: 6.8%
IBU: Unknown, but I'd estimate it's between 10 and 15 (very low)
My rating: 9/10
